Opera in Berlin Tour

Richard Strauss’ operatic triumph, loved by opera goers, is joined by Verdi’s entertaining final opera and Cherubini’s Medea.
During the day we visit the superbly restored Museuminsel complex including the Pergamon Museum, the nearby German Historical Museum, and the galleries and other museums of this remarkably rich cultural agglomeration. Dinner each evening will be at local restaurants around the Friedrichstrasse.
There will be visits to other places of interest in the city.
The itinerary is flexible depending on the size of the group.

Itinerary


DAY 1

We meet at the Maritim proArte Hotel near to Friedrichstrasse and the Unter den Linden. The hotel is modern, comfortable and has a large swimming pool for those who enjoy a refreshing dip. Welcome drinks are followed by our first opera talk. An early dinner in near the hotel precedes tonight’s performance of Cherubini’s Medea (Médeé). Sonya Yoncheva sings the demanding title in this role in this intense and monumental work revived in the 1950’s by Maria Callas

DAY 2

After breakfast we take a tour of the historic centre, walking along the restored Unter den Linden. We visit the magnificent Museums Island including the Neues Museum and the Alte Nationalgalerie.
After free time we will meet for dinner and an evening performance of Der Rosenkavalier at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.

DAY 3

This morning we visit Charlottenburg – the oldest Schloss in the city. There is free time for visiting other landmarks or museums before dinner at the Café Nole. We walk across the Unter den Linden for tonight’s final performance at the Staatsoper.

DAY 4

Check out will be available after breakfast.
We will be happy to help with travel arrangements. There is a good range of inexpensive flights from the UK to Berlin Schönefeld where there is a direct train every ten minutes to Friedrichstrasse. The Tegel Bus also stops adjacent to Friedrichstrasse.
This tour can be extended by a day or two for those who wish to spend more time in the city
