Opera & Ballet in Paris

Rene Jacobs directs the Paris Opera in Scarlatti’s Cain, overo Il primo omicidio at the Palais Garnier. The Monte-Carlo Ballet’s tribute to the spirit of Diaghilev and the Ballet Russes includes works by Ravel, Weber, Debussy and Stravinsky’s Petrouchka at the Theatre des Champs Elysees. Dvorak’s fairytale opera Rusalka and Berlioz’s epic Le Troyens are performed in this the thirtieth anniversary year of the opening of the Opera Bastille.



We meet at the Hotel Helios Opera near to the Palais Garnier and Galerie Lafayette. It’s a modernised hotel with pleasant rooms. Welcome drinks are followed by our first opera talk. An early dinner in a restaurant near to the opera precedes tonight’s performance of Scarlatti’s vibrant opera seria Cain overo Il primo omicido at the Palais Garnier.

After breakfast we visit the fine art collection including old masters Botticelli, Van Dyck and Rembrandt in the Jacquemart-Andre Museum. The afternoon is free before we gather for an opera talk followed by an early dinner.
We travel to the Opera Bastille for a performance of Dvorak’s Rusalka.

Today we are free for sightseeing and enjoyment. The tour manager is happy to take people on an optional visit to the Gustave Moreau Museum, the Place de Vosges and the Maison Victor Hugo. We meet again after dinner for a performance by the Ballets de Monte Carlo at the Theatre de Champs Elysées.

The day begins with an opera talk after which we walk to the Palais Garnier for a tour of its sumptuous interior.
Lunch follows with after a free afternoon. We travel to the Opera Bastille for the performance of Berlioz’s Le Troyens marking both the 150th anniversary of his death and the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Bastille opera house.
