Opera & Wine in Verona

Three exceptional operas set in the fabulous Roman Arena. Staying at the Hotel Accademia in the heart of the old city and close to the Piazza Bra we enjoy three nights of spectacle under the stars. The atmosphere in the Arena is one of near tangible magic and is one of the great cultural events of the Italian summer. Aida in the historic 1913 production is followed by La Traviata and Il Trovatore with Anna Netrebko singing the part of Leonora. Opera & Art in Milan

Milan’s La Scala is the most famous opera house in the world. Opened in 1778 on the site of a church, it has played host to some of the greatest singers including Renata Tebaldi and Maria Callas. Verdi trained at La Scala; Otello, Falstaff and Nabucco were premiered here. Famous house conductors include Toscanini, Abbado and Barenboim.

Chamber Music in Beverley

Each year for the last 25 years the Beverley Chamber Music Festival has attracted leading musicians to the town. This year’s festival celebrates the treasures of the Russian chamber music repertoire, including pieces by Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Borodin. It will also profile Elgar, showcasing his great chamber music.
The festival is centred on St Mary’s Church in the heart of the town.

WNO in Cardiff

We visit Cardiff for two weekend performances at the Millennium Centre - Verdi’s Rigoletto and Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen. Welsh National Opera goes from strength to strength under conductor Tomàš Hanus. His WNO performances of Janacek have been given rave reviews in the UK and in Brno.
We will stay at the magnificent 5* St David’s Hotel with illustrated opera talks and a visit to the National Museum which holds an outstanding collection of impressionist paintings.

Opera and Ballet in Leipzig

As the city of music is filled with lights 30 years after the revolution of 1989, we visit the Opera for a chance to hear a production of Wagner’s early romantic opera together with his immortal Tristan. Tchaikovsky’s ballet is complemented by an optional matinee performance of Brahms’ Double Concerto at the Gewandhaus.

Opera & Art in Leeds

PARIS - Baroque Spectacle and thrilling drama

Join us in Paris for three nights of exciting music. Our small group stay in Paris begins with Cavalli’s lavish Baroque opera which was first produced in 1662 at the Tuileries to celebrate the marriage of Louis XIV to the Infanta of Spain. The story of Hercules in love, newly staged at the Opera Comique promises to be a colourful production.
Our second evening is a complete contrast with Ana Maria Martinez in the title role of Puccini’s tragic story of a young girl’s fate in Nagasaki. Our final evening is Verdi’s lavish tale of family intrigue and romance – a new production with René Pape in the title role.

Opera & Christmas Markets in Berlin

Salomé ∙ Samson et Delilah ∙ The Barber of Seville

Join us for three nights of opera in Berlin in the lead up to Christmas. The city is a blaze of light and decorations with Christmas markets and chalets of glühwein. Richard Strauss’ electrifying one act opera based on a play by Oscar Wilde begins our visit to Berlin. Saint-Säens’ grand French opera is a story of manipulation and cunning. It includes one of the greatest love duets in opera.
During the day we visit the superbly restored Museuminsel complex including the Pergamon Museum, the German Historical Museum, and the galleries and other museums of the complex.
Dinner will be at local restaurants with time to browse the markets. We also visit Daniel Libeskind’s visionary Jewish Museum.
