Daniel Barenboim conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Mahler’s First Symphony for the opening concert at the Philharmonie. The musical feast continues at the Staatsoper with performances of Prokofiev’s lively, virtuosic comedy. Set in Seville it includes references to Mozart and Rossini in its highly theatrical, yet lyrical style. Wagner’s epic masterpiece, a celebration of music and love, with its extraordinary tonal splendour forms the astonishing climax of our visit.
