Opera & Christmas Markets in Berlin

Join us for three nights of opera in Berlin in the lead up to Christmas. The city is a blaze of light and decorations with Christmas markets and chalets of glühwein. Richard Strauss’ electrifying one act opera based on a play by Oscar Wilde begins our visit to Berlin. Saint-Säens’ grand French opera is a story of manipulation and cunning. It includes one of the greatest love duets in opera.
During the day we visit the superbly restored Museuminsel complex including the Pergamon Museum, the German Historical Museum, and the galleries and other museums of the complex.
Dinner will be at local restaurants with time to browse the markets. We also visit Daniel Libeskind’s visionary Jewish Museum.

We meet at the Maritim proArte Hotel near to Friedrichstrasse and the Unter den Linden. The hotel is modern, comfortable and has a large swimming pool for those who enjoy a refreshing dip. Welcome drinks are followed by our first opera talk. An early dinner in the hotel precedes tonight’s performance of Richard Strauss’ masterpiece, Salomé at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. An alternative performance of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut is also available at Deutsche Oper.
