Steam to the Fells, Dales and Coast

WNO in Cardiff – Verdi & Prokofiev

We visit Cardiff for Verdi’s eternally popular La Traviata and Prokofiev’s lavishly opulent setting of Tolstoy’s classic. Welsh National Opera goes from strength to strength under conductor Tomàš Hanus and this production promises to be an unmissable event in the opera calendar. Ambitious and epic in scale it seeks to evoke the grandeur of Russian society in the 1800’s. We will stay at the 4* Future Inn in Cardiff Bay with illustrated opera talks and a visit to the National Museum with its outstanding collection of impressionist paintings.

Opera & Art in Milan

Ernani at La Scala

A five day cultural break in the heart of Milan staying at the comfortable Hotel de Ville (4*). At La Scala there will be a performance of Ernani. Verdi’s opera is based on the play by Victor Hugo and was hugely popular, being the first full length opera to be recorded.

The cast includes, Francesco Meli (Ernani), Ailyn Perez (Elvira), Simone Piazzola (Don Carlo) with conductor Adam Fischer.

There will be visits to the La Scala Museum and the Casa Verdi as well as the Duomo, the Brera Gallery and the Leonardo’s last Supper at Santa Marie delle Grazie.
An optional performance of Mozart’s La finta giardiniera may be available.

A five day celebration of Mozart

Verdi’s powerful opera of political and family intrigue; Donizetti’s sparkling yet tender comedy at the Opera Bastille together with Rossini’s finest writing for solo voice and ensembles at the Palais Garnier.
